Vision
"Where there is no vision, the people perish." What a true statement! When you don't know where you are going, it is difficult to know when you have arrived. I remember when my daughter was first learning to drive. I asked her how she was going to get to her destination. She didn't really have a route in mind and quickly said, "Can't you get there going such and such a way?" I told her that you could, but that it would be kind of like driving to California via the bottom of South America.
How often do we just go with the flow and land where life takes us? If you are a leader in your company, it is critical not only for you to have a vision for what you want your company to achieve, but to also keep that vision in the forefront so that all of your people know without a doubt in what direction they are headed. Too often we assume that people know what we want them to do, or on what we want them to focus. Life is full of distractions and without focused vision, our best laid plans fall by the way.
I am hopeful that if you were planning a vacation and traveling by automobile, you would take the time to pinpoint your final destination and determine the best route to take. How much more important is your life than a family vacation? What is your vision, your end game? What will it take you to get there? One of my favorite sayings is, "Slow and steady wins the race." It is not so much about how fast you are accomplishing what you want, but that you are moving in the right direction. Take time today to think about the vision for your life...your family life...your work life...your bucket list. You can make it happen!
